Fence Installation Built for Warren County Properties
Warren County is rural, agricultural, and spread out. It borders Virginia to the north, with Warrenton as the historic county seat and Lake Gaston drawing waterfront residential along the northern edge. The property mix here runs from working farms and open parcels to small-town residential in Warrenton and Norlina to lakefront homes at Gaston.
Piedmont clay runs through most of the county. It behaves differently from the sandy soils we work in Nash and Wilson counties: heavier, holds moisture longer, and shifts with wet-dry cycles. Permit requirements vary between the county office and the individual towns, and we handle that on every project.

Communities We Serve in Warren County
Fence Craft works throughout the county, from established city neighborhoods to open rural parcels.
Warrenton
The county seat, with established residential neighborhoods and historic properties dating back over two centuries. Wood and ornamental aluminum are the most common requests in town.
Norlina
A small community near the Virginia line along US-1. A mix of town lots and nearby rural parcels keeps wood privacy and chain link as the steady work here.
Macon
An interior community surrounded by agricultural land. Larger lots and farm properties drive practical perimeter fencing, with chain link and farm-style runs being the most common.
Lake Gaston Area
Waterfront and near-waterfront residential along the NC-Virginia state line. Ornamental aluminum and vinyl are the common choices for lakefront lots, with chain link on larger parcels back from the water.
Unincorporated Warren County
Most of the county is open farmland, forest, and long-established rural communities. If your address is in Warren County, we serve it.
What We Install in Warren County
We also install: split rail · ranch rail · farm fencing · pool enclosures · dog kennels · gate operators & access control · temporary fencing — ask about availability for your property.

Vinyl & PVC Fencing
A low-maintenance option for residential and lakefront properties where durability matters most.

Wood Fencing
Most-requested residential material in Warrenton and Norlina for privacy and property lines.

Aluminum & Ornamental Fencing
Suits Warrenton’s historic properties, pool enclosures, and Lake Gaston waterfront lots.

Chain Link Fencing
The standard for agricultural perimeters, farm parcels, and rural containment across the county.

What Warren County’s Clay Soil Does to a Fence
The county sits in the northeastern Piedmont, and clay-heavy subsoils run through most of the land here. The wet-dry cycle in Warren County’s clay creates lateral pressure on fence posts that builds over seasons. A post that looks solid at install can start shifting within a year or two if it wasn’t set deep enough to begin with.
We set posts to a minimum of 30 inches across the county, and deeper where conditions call for it.
We set posts to a minimum of 30 inches across the county, and deeper where conditions call for it. On agricultural parcels with minimal windbreak, long fence runs across exposed land need tighter post spacing than a sheltered yard in town. Lake Gaston lots introduce a different variable: many were graded with fill during development, and that fill won’t hold a post long-term on its own.
On a lakefront install near Gaston, we found about 20 inches of fill over native soil where the lot had been graded down to the waterfront.
On a lakefront install near Gaston, we found about 20 inches of fill over native soil where the lot had been graded down to the waterfront. Standard depth in that fill wasn’t going to provide lateral stability over time. We augered through to the native clay layer and extended concrete footings to 34 inches. That fence has held through multiple wet seasons without movement. You only catch that if you’re checking soil on every job.
Fence Permits in Warren County
Warren County manages permits through its Planning, Zoning & Code Enforcement Department. Each municipality may have its own process, and the rules don’t always match between towns and unincorporated areas.

Pool fencing requires a separate permit county-wide, with a minimum 48-inch barrier with a self-closing, self-latching gate per NC pool safety code.
Permit details for each town are covered on the community pages linked above. We handle the permit process on every project.

How a Warren County Fence Project Works
1
On-Site Evaluation
We visit the property, walk the fence line, and check soil and drainage conditions before quoting. If the lot has fill, waterfront exposure, or open-field wind load, we identify that here.
2
Professional Installation
Posts are set at the correct depth for the conditions found on site. Concrete cures fully before panels, rails, or fabric go on.
3
Walkthrough & Guarantee
We walk the finished fence with you before we leave. Every installation is backed by our 12-month craftsmanship guarantee.

Warren County Fence Installation — Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a permit to install a fence in Warren County?
Contact Warren County Planning, Zoning & Code Enforcement to confirm requirements for your property. The county office handles unincorporated areas, and individual towns may have their own processes. We navigate the permit requirements for whichever part of the county your property is in and handle the application on your behalf.
How deep do fence posts need to be in Warren County’s soil?
We set posts to a minimum of 30 inches, and deeper where site conditions require it. The Piedmont clay across most of the county holds moisture and creates lateral pressure on posts over time. On lots with graded fill, common near Lake Gaston, we auger through to native soil before setting footings. The right depth depends on what we find during the site visit.
What fence material works best for Warren County properties?
It depends on the property type. Chain link is the most practical choice for agricultural perimeters and rural containment. Wood suits established residential lots in Warrenton and Norlina. Aluminum works well for pool enclosures, front yards, and Lake Gaston waterfront. Vinyl is a strong low-maintenance option for residential and lakefront properties. We walk through the options during the estimate.
How long does a fence installation take?
Most residential projects are completed in one to three days once permits are secured. Agricultural and commercial projects with longer runs may take additional time. We cover the full schedule during the estimate so you can plan around it.
