Wood, Vinyl & Chain Link Fence Installation in Bunn, NC
We’ve installed fencing throughout Bunn and the surrounding Franklin County area. Most projects are on residential lots where property lines are clearly defined.
Wood Privacy Fencing
Wood privacy fencing is one of the most common requests. We’ve replaced aging panels and installed new backyard enclosures on lots where neighbors are close and usable space matters. Pressure-treated boards handle Bunn’s wet winters without rotting at the post base — the most common failure point on older installations.
Fence Replacement on Older Lots
Leaning posts are usually a footing problem, not a material one. We reset deeper with concrete — same-day fix on most lots.
Vinyl & Low-Maintenance Options
Vinyl needs no painting, sealing, or annual upkeep. In Bunn’s humidity, it outlasts untreated wood by 10–15 years with zero maintenance.
Pet & Everyday Containment
We install chain-link and solid backyard enclosures for dog containment — built with self-closing gates and latches that don’t loosen after a season of use.
Fence, Gate, and Construction Permits in Bunn, NC
In Bunn, zoning approval begins with the Town of Bunn. Depending on the scope of work, state or county permits may also be required. We help you navigate each step.
Zoning Approval (Town of Bunn)
- Required from the Town before most fences, gates, dog kennels, or concrete structures.
- Town reviews: property line placement, setbacks, zoning district compliance, visibility at streets/intersections, and easement encroachment.
- Zoning compliance is required for the Town of Bunn before the County will issue a Certificate of Occupancy.
- Verifies that your fence location and design comply with Bunn zoning ordinances.
Building Permits (Town Inspections)
- Issued by the Town (Bunn handles its own inspections).
- Required for: fence posts set in concrete, pool fencing, commercial/security fencing, concrete pads, structural railings, pole installations (flag poles, light poles).
- Minor repairs or fence removal usually don’t require permits; inspections are mandatory for structural work.
- All permitted work must pass inspection before project completion.
Electrical Permits (Gate Operators & Lighting)
- Required for: gate operators, access control systems, electrified fencing, and lighting installations.
- Automated gates must comply with UL 325 safety standards, which require entrapment protection devices, monitored safety sensors, and a manual release mechanism.
- Electrical permitting + inspection required.
Residential Fence Height Rules
Fence height limits vary by zoning district. The Town of Bunn’s zoning ordinance governs these limits — contact the Town or us directly to confirm requirements for your specific lot. Key restrictions: No fences in public right-of-way; corner lots have stricter visibility limits.
Applies to all materials: wood, vinyl/PVC, chain link, ornamental aluminum, and privacy fencing.
Commercial & Industrial Fence Standards
- Taller fences generally allowed (8–10+ feet depending on zoning).
- Security fencing permitted.
- Additional requirements for visibility at entrances, traffic safety, and setbacks from roads.
Pool Fence Requirements
- Minimum 48-inch barrier height (North Carolina Residential Code compliance).
- Self-closing, self-latching gates that open outward. Gate latches must be positioned at least 54 inches above ground or located on the pool-facing side of the gate per NC code.
- No climbable gaps (openings must not allow the passage of a 4-inch sphere).
- Pool fencing violations in NC result in stop-work orders and mandatory removal. We build to code the first time.
Property Lines, Easements & Surveys
- Fences must stay inside property boundaries and avoid utility easements.
- Survey recommended for: privacy fencing, commercial fencing, and large installations.
- Violations can require removal.
Visibility Requirements
- Fences, gates, and bollards must not block visibility near intersections, driveways, or commercial entrances.
- Affects front yard fencing, security gates, and commercial fencing layouts.
Common Violations
- Fence installed without zoning approval.
- Fence built on the property line or easement.
- Pool fence not meeting safety code.
- Gate automation without an electrical permit.
- Fence too tall in the front yard.
- Blocking visibility at intersections.
We handle the paperwork on straightforward permits, and advise the best route on involved ones.

Frequently Asked
Fencing Questions
Do I need a permit for a fence in Bunn?
Most fences in Bunn require a zoning permit from the Town. We recommend verifying with Town Hall for your specific project. We handle the zoning permit where applicable. HOA approval is submitted by the homeowner; we give you the layouts and product data to include.
Why do fence posts lean in Bunn?
Sandy loam soil in the Bunn area has low cohesion, which means fence posts need a deeper setting and concrete footings to prevent leaning or shifting over time. We dig deeper than standard minimums and use concrete footings to permanently anchor posts.
What’s the best fence material for Bunn’s humidity?
Vinyl and aluminum are impervious to moisture and won’t rot or rust. Pressure-treated wood works too if you prefer the traditional look, but vinyl requires zero maintenance in our humid climate.
Can I install a fence in a newer development without HOA approval?
Not without risking removal. Managed communities have covenants governing materials, colors, and heights. Violations can mean forced tear-outs at your expense. We review your HOA guidelines and prepare the layouts and product data you submit for approval.
How long does a typical Bunn fence installation take?
Most residential projects take 2–4 days, depending on yard size and material. Zoning approval and building permits add 1–2 weeks to the start date.
