6′ Commercial Chain Link Fence with 12′ Double Gate — Hunt High School Stadium, Wilson, NC

Project Overview

Hunt High School’s football stadium — home to the track, field, and grandstands — needed a perimeter fence that could do more than mark a boundary. It had to control access to school property after hours, hold up to daily foot traffic from athletes and spectators, and still allow equipment and maintenance vehicles onto the field without tearing up the track surface to do it.

Fence Craft installed a 6′ tall black commercial chain-link fence around the stadium perimeter, tying into the existing track-and-field layout, with a 12′ custom double gate sized for mowers, maintenance equipment, and event setup crews.

The Challenge

School athletic facilities take a different kind of wear than a backyard or even a typical commercial lot:

• Eastern NC ground conditions. Wilson County sits on the kind of soil Fence Craft engineers work with on every commercial job in the region — sandy in places, prone to holding water after storms, which puts real stress on post depth and concrete footing if it’s not done right the first time.
• Constant foot traffic. Student athletes, coaches, meet officials, and spectators move through the same gates and fence lines every week during track and football seasons.
• Equipment access without track damage. Field maintenance, goalpost work, and event setup all require vehicle access — but the gate has to align with the track surface without creating a lip or gap that could become a tripping hazard.
• After-hours security. An open-access stadium invites problems: unauthorized use of the field at night, vandalism to the track or bleachers, and liability exposure for the school district.

The Solution

Fence Craft installed 6′ commercial-grade black chain link around the stadium, matching the black finish already used on the school’s other athletic fencing for a consistent look across the property. Black chain link was the right call here for two reasons: it holds up better against sun and moisture than galvanized in this climate, and it reads as far less institutional than raw galvanized steel around a stadium full of spectators and cameras.

The 12′ double gate was framed and hung specifically for the equipment that needs to pass through it — wide enough for mowers and small maintenance vehicles, hinged for a full swing-open rather than a slide, and aligned to the track’s curve so it closes flush without catching on the surface.

Posts were set deep and anchored in high-PSI concrete to handle Wilson County’s soil, the same approach Fence Craft uses on every stadium and athletic-field job in Eastern NC — because a gate that’s used daily by ground crews and event staff can’t afford to sag or bind after a wet season.

Results

The finished fence line gives Hunt High School a secured perimeter around the stadium and track without disrupting the sightlines fans and coaches rely on during games and meets. The double gate gives grounds crews a wide, reliable access point for equipment that doesn’t require detouring around the track, and the black commercial-grade fabric is built to hold its finish and its shape through Eastern NC’s humidity, storms, and daily use for years to come.
